Since 1978, Behnam Persian and Oriental Rug Gallery has been in the business of selling, both retail and wholesale rugs as well as cleaning, and restoring fine handmade rugs in the north Dallas, Texas, USA. The Tavakolian brothers came to the United States in 1970 to pursue their higher education. After completing their education, the brothers investigated the potential of caring on the traditional family business of importing and exporting hand-made rugs in the United States. At first, the brothers only directly imported rugs from Iran (Persia) and then they expanded their import and manufacturing business to India, Pakistan, China, and Romania and due to the wide variety of colors, designs, and grades of quality found in these countries because of the demand in the United States. We chose Behnam (pronounced as it is spelled except with the “h” silent) for the name of our firm because it means “good” or “best” in modern Persian (Farsi) Language. Today, the company is still owned by the same named family and it is run by the older brother, Behnam (Ben) Tavakolian with the same ultimate goal of providing OUTSTANDING selection and service to our customers.
In 1999, Behnam Tavakolian designed and built a distinctive Mediterranean-style 15,000-square-foot showroom from the ground up to house his expanding business. Mr. Tavakolian had the showroom designed to be one of a few structures built in the United States to meet the needs of the high quality handmade rug business. The two-story gallery has the facilities and expertise all under one roof to sell new and antique rugs from our stock and work with interior designers, architects and homeowners custom designing rugs. The showroom even has custom designed facilities to hand-wash and restore rugs.
